Best things about living in Spokane

June 21, 2008

While listening to my favorite morning radio show the other day, the three hosts of the show shared their Top 3 greatest things about Spokane in the summer.

As I was walking along Manito Boulevard with my dog Sam, I got to thinking of the reasons I love living in Spokane…during any season.

1) 4 seasons…although this year it seemed like spring only lasted about 10 days with all the horrible winter weather we had (snow in May in surrounding areas)

2) Gonzaga Basketball

3) Close enough to a big city (Seattle) but far enough that it feels like an actual trip when you go there

4) Coffee places :)

5) City-wide pride…whether it be for Bloomsday, trees being cut down Bernard Street, Zags/Cougs basketball fever, high school sports, biking to work emphasis, school systems, Hoopfest, the Spokane Shock, the Indians, the Chiefs, etc., Spokane goes all-out when it comes to hometown pride.

6) Big enough not to know everyone, small enough for your neighbors to look out for you.

7) Dick’s Hamburgers

8) That it’s the kind of place where Mark Few stays…not just because his wife told him to, but because he loves it here and knows Bloomington, Palo Alto, and Eugene couldn’t compare, no matter how much money he would be/has been offered.

I might add to this as other reasons come to mind. :)
